Tramadol High
Some people wonder if they can get high from taking tramadol. It is difficult to give a yes or no answer to this question. The main reason for the difficulty is that people metabolize medications differently. Tramadol in mild doses may cause one person to feel "high" and do absolutely nothing for someone else.
A good example of this comes from personal experience. I currently take Tramadol and know 2 other people who take it. We all have different effects to taking the drug. I have been taking it for about 6 years off and on due to a wrist injury that resulted in 3 surgeries. These surgeries ended up causing me to suffer from extreme arthritis and tendonitis in that wrist.
When I take the Tramadol, I take 100mg in the morning and 50mg every 2 hours to "take the edge off". Is this a high? In a matter of speaking yes. I do feel a sense of the drug altering my mental state. It does not impair judgment or reflexes. It simply relaxes me to where I don't feel the pain. We will refer to the other 2 people I know that take it as friend 1 and friend 2.
Friend 1 has taken Tramadol for about 7 years for pain from a car wreck. She can take 150mg every 3 hours and have no feeling of being high. She takes this much to kill the pain. She has built a physical dependency on the drug by building up a tolerance. She takes a higher dose than prescribed but it does not get her high.
Friend 2 has taken Vicodin and Percocet for pain in the past and has been addicted to both. She can take 100mg and be high for hours at a time. She is addicted to the drug. She will take 100mg every 2 hours just to keep that level of high. She has been known to fake injury and ask friends like myself and friend 1 for some of our tramadol when she is running low or is out.
In conclusion, we have found that Tramadol is habit forming and a person can get high from taking it. It does depend on how the person metabolizes the drug. Just because one person gets high from taking 100mg of Tramadol does not mean that another person will get high even if they take 200mg. It depends on the person.
